Greener, better
HOUSTON, TX – As people become increasingly aware of the harmful effects that chemicals can have on the Earth, their houses and their kids, they are seeking “green” alternatives to common problems, such as pest control. But what about Fido? CedarCide, a Houston-based company with an environmentally friendly answer to pest control, implores families to not forget the family pet.
“Your beloved dog or cat will suffer from the side effects of chemicals just as humans do,” said Dave Glassel, founder and CEO of CedarCide. “Don’t leave them out – do your best to protect them.”
Many pet lovers have taken heed of recent warnings that products sold to prevent fleas and heartworms in their furry babies may actually be doing more harm than good. Stories of pets with bad reactions, pets who have died from these medications, and more have run rampant. In 2008, more than 44,000 complaints were filed from dog and cat owners whose pets had serious reactions to flea and tick spot-on medicines. Of those, 1,200 pets died – and the EPA is intensifying its investigation into over-the-counter pet flea and tick treatments. So far, no final ruling from the government agency on its findings, and whether our pets are in harm’s way.
Linda Nozicka, a resident of the northwest Chicago, Illinois area, was frustrated by flea medications that didn’t work for her three dogs, and by the chemicals in those medications. Retired from her job, Linda listened all day as her dogs scratched and scratched at the fleas and their bites. With one of her beloved pets allergic to flea bites, Linda was using a flea comb on all three animals three to four times a day to try to control the parasite. It wasn’t working.
“I said, ‘Enough is enough!’” recalled Nozicka. “When my vet suggested I use harsh chemicals – on my dogs, my home, and my hard – I was done. I knew there had to be a better way.”
An environmentally conscious individual, Linda hit the Internet to search for a better, greener solution to her problem. She tried a product from CedarCide, which immediately controlled and eliminated the flea problem. Linda noticed that the fleas that had been jumping on her beloved pups immediately started dropping off of them. She also noticed that the yellowjackets on her back porch that had been dive-bombing her dogs actually seemed "repelled," not wanting to go near any of her animals. Encouraged, Linda sprayed her whole house and her yard, including a large tree she has on her lake property, and she has not had trouble since.
"Almost immediately," Linda said, "the dogs’ scratching stopped. It's like they all put their feet down and just stopped. I was absolutely flabbergasted."
CedarCide products are made from Texas Red cedar oil, and are used by the U.S. Army to help protect troops in the Middle East from sand fleas -- some of the most aggressive and damaging form of fleas. CedarCide products are completely non-toxic with zero chemicals, simply using the power of cedar to repel insects. CedarCide can be used to control fleas and other pests on your pet. Because it also controls mosquitoes, a carrier for heartworms, CedarCide can be used in place of typical heartworm and flea treatments.
“It sounds like a simple concept,” says Glassel. “But it’s one that can not only save your dog or cat a lot of itching – it may also save your pet’s life.”
